A Belizean In America’s Orchestra
posted (August 21, 2018)
For many of you, the first things that come to mind when you hear the word orchestra are classical music and the sharp and animated moves the conductor makes with his baton as he is directing. It is more of a European thing. Well, the Orchestra of the Americas adds a delightful flavor of music from Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Belize among many other countries in the Americas. Violin Coach from the National Youth Orchestra of Belize represented Belize on this year's European tour. We met up with her today.

Cindy Burgos, Violin Coach, National Youth Orchestra of Belize
"So we did a two week residency in Poland at the Penderecki Music Center. So that is a place where it was custom built just for musicians and orchestra's so we spent two weeks there working with the best conductors and coaches for an orchestra. Then we went to Warsaw in Poland, we did a few concerts there, then we went on to Ukraine, we did about 3 concerts, Germany, we went to Wiesbaden Germany and also to Hamburg where we played in one of the best concert halls in Europe known as the Elbphilharmonie Concert hall and then we went to Edinburgh Scotland and we did one concert there for the Edinburgh international festival. It was a really good experience to get out there in Europe to play."

"And this is a really prestigious event, this event brings musicians and artist from all over the Americas?"

Cindy Burgos
"Yes I was able to meet a lot of young people from the America's that they are very passionate that they study in Europe some in the United States but they all share this passion that they want to represent their countries and they want to show that they are individual countries like Belize for example, we have talent and we want to showcase it to the world."

The event ran from July 5th to August 8th.
