Despite Treasure Sick Out, Public Officers Will Get Paid
posted (August 22, 2018)
Hundreds of public officers are on edge after news went out yesterday that three supervisors at the Treasury's payroll office in Belmopan had all called in sick at the same time.

Today, the Financial Secretary Joe Waight called it a coincidence, but sources tell us that it's a sickout triggered by labour issues brewing in that office.

But, media reports stated that their absence left the payroll unit on standstill because of the simultaneous sick leave. It's cause for anxious concern, because the unit has to complete payroll by Thursday - for it to be paid out by the middle of next week.

Today, Fine Sec. Waight told us there is no reason for concern. He says his office has, quote, "sent up another lady who knows the system very well…we are processing the payroll…it was never at risk of not being processed." End quote.

Most importantly, he says, quote, "everyone should expect their pay in full." End quote.

Government payroll goes out on next Wednesday or Thursday, with teachers being paid on Friday. v Waight says no labor issue has reached his desk but, if there is one, when the supervisors come back, he hopes they can sit down and work it out.
