Trinidad Shakes Under Earthquake
posted (August 22, 2018)
A 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Venezuela yesterday - and it was felt strongly in nearby Trinidad and Tobago.

The quake caused structural damage to buildings in Trinidad and other Caribbean islands as far south as Guyana.

Caribbean 360 reports that "residents of Venezuela, as well as other Caribbean countries including Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Barbados and St Vincent and the Grenadines, reported seeing buildings and vehicles swaying, telephone polls fall, walls collapse, and floors crack as the shaking continued for well over a minute."

The Trinidad Express reported on Wednesday that electricity, water and communication systems were all working following the aftershock.

This morning there was a 5.9 magnitude aftershock - which was felt mostly in Venezuela. This is the strongest earthquake Venezuela has experienced in many decades.
