The Road To Reassuring RADO is Long
posted (August 23, 2018)

Last night we told you about the international sporting embarrassment for Belize. The Regional Anti Doping Organization has suspended our National Anti Doping body. RADO took the decision last week after the Belizean Representative missed the third consecutive meeting of that body.

Yesterday, in a letter to the President of the National Olympic Committee and the Minister of Sports, the Regional Chairman said that Belize can lift the suspension by “convening an extraordinary meeting of the members of the Advisory Board of the RADO-CAM”.

That will be expensive and today the sports Minister lamented that whatever it costs, they will have to respond to the crack of the whip from an international body:…

Hon. Patrick Faber - Minister of Sports
"The way I understand it is that we were suspended because we didn't attend a meeting or something."

Jules Vasquez
"Three in a row consecutively."

Hon. Patrick Faber
"And if it is that we have to be - the sporting world is very funny, the demand that we participate when it requires some serious funding, if you don't participate in xyz they banned you, you can't participate but I can assure our sporting enthusiast and in fact even the international community that Belize has no intention of flouting the procedures of anti-doping or any other areas of sporting we have run afoul of these international organizations. Since we have been put in this position I suppose as with many other things in the government when the whip is cracked from outside, we will have to try to see what we can do to fall in compliance with what it is they're asking."

The Sports Council will also have to outfit the National Anti Doping Organization with an office that has a refrigerator to store samples.  Up until recently these were stored in the National Director’s refrigerator at home - which caused a recents doping suspension to be thrown out.
