Alleged Cocaine Cowboys Ride Off Into Sunset

It made huge news in December of 2017, when police busted 37 year old Peter Schmidt and 33 year old Carlos Lopez with 5 kilos of cocaine in a knapsack, and a pistol in the back seat of a rented SUV. Police said at the time that it was sophisticated operation which had them trailing the men in the upscale Buttonwood Bay area.

Well, there was no sophistication today when the case just fell through in court.

The case was set for final adjournment today and when the arresting officer failed to appear, attorney Ellis Arnold submitted that his clients did not have a case to answer. Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford upheld the submission and struck it out. According to reports, the main witness did appear but she came to court after the case was struck out.

The men had been charged with drug trafficking and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition without.
