Two Pitbulls Killed By Swarming Bees
posted (August 27, 2018)
Killer bees killed two dogs over the weekend in Belize City. It happened on Cemetery Lane where a troublesome hive of bees swarmed four dogs; but two of them - pit bulls - were chained while the other two, pot-lickers were loose and ran off to escape the bees. The pit bulls couldn't and they died under attack from the swarm.

It's caused some very hard feelings in the neighborhood because the hive is in a neighbor's property, tucked into an awning.

Today, it was still there when we visited, and Walter McFarlane says he's been calling agriculture department - but no one came to deal with it:...

Walter McFarlane, Area Resident
"It was reported to me the night. They said that bees killed 2 of their dogs and some of the kids got bitten. I told them I can't do anything because I had called the environmental agency and they said that they will come out. They say they have to have 2 cans of Fish spray. I told them to call me when they come, so I can have it ready. But up to now they haven't come yet."

Reporter
"If these bees aren't solved very quickly, it could cause chaos between you and your neighbor."

Walter McFarlane, Area Resident
"Right now it causing problems. I don't blame them. I didn't know that it was going to be dangerous."

As you heard the bees have also stung some children in the neighborhood. He is pleading with the Agriculture Department's bee killers to come to deal with the problem at 11 Cemetery Lane. He can be reached at 667-4799.
