Two of them, one with a firearm, held up the attendant and robbed him of approximately $2000 in cash and a cordless phone. Police were quick to respond and recovered a firearm, a cordless phone, $500 US and $1100BZ in cash. Here's more:

ASP Alejandro Cowo, OC, CIB, Belize City
"Reference the robbery at Caye Caulker, Caye Caulker police arrested and charged Daniel Hughes, 19 years old of Aloe Vera Street and a minor for robbery and kept unlicensed fire arm and ammunition. They were taken to San Pedro magistrate court this morning."

Today in court, the 16 year old student pleaded guilty to robbing Caye Caulker Fuels. He told Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford that he knows what he did and is ready to take responsibility for his action. He said his father is dead and is mother is sick with Cancer and that his brother is the only person he has left. This brother, he claims, owes money to someone who was hunting him down, and he did not want to lose him too, so he went to commit the crime. He told the court he is sorry. The minor was not remanded to prison as the Magistrate has placed him in the care of a social worker who was present in court for the arraignment. It was concluded that a lock up would do more harm than good until his sentencing date in September. He will be placed on bail. The court is awaiting for a social report on the minor before passing a sentence.

Senior Magistrate Ford has deferred sentencing for September 27th. He was charged along with 18-year old Daniel Hughes Jr. and even though the minor took the rap, the prosecution did not withdraw the case against Hughes.

They were charged jointly with one count of robbery. The minor was also charged with one count of handling stolen goods for being in possession of the attendant's stolen cell phone.

Hughes Junior was charged alone with two counts of firearm related offenses for one count of kept firearm and ammunition without a gun license.
