The Boca Block Burner, Lessons Learned
posted (August 27, 2018)
The Boca Del Rio block fire victims are still trying to get their lives back together. And the San Pedro town council is doing its best to help them. While that is important, putting a more effective fire response plan is also critical. We caught up with the San Pedro Mayor on Friday at the Coast Guard patrol base ground breaking ceremony and he told us about his plans to improve that system on the island.

Daniel Guerrero, San Pedro Mayor
"We are still working. We are still trying to look after them. We know that they have to start all over and its coming along and it comes apart from the victims - when it comes to the fire, we have a group that we are working together to get some mobile pumps. Even though government is getting 2 new fire trucks. But we are doing our own and we will be training the tour guides. And also people from the different sub-divisions and things like that. We have a group of people that a trying to donate the 10-year warranty smoke alarms. I think smoke alarms will save lives, because once that thing starts beeping so high, you wake up wherever you are. It gets your attention. We are working to make sure that the island doesn't go through another one like that. I'm saying we cannot go, but at least be prepared."
