Off Duty Cop Springs Into Action Against Shooter With a .45
posted (August 29, 2018)
A man was shot in Belize City last night - and it led to a wild shootout. The victim is lucky to be alive, because the men who shot him used a very heavy caliber handgun, a prohibited .45 pistol. But the shooter is also lucky because an off duty police officer who was buying chicken nearby fired at the gunman.

It all unfolded last night at around 9:45 at the corner of Johnson St and Cemetery Road. 30 year old Mathew Smith was buying chicken at a fast food stall when two men rode out from the Johnson street area - and one of them fired several shots at him. They were using a .45 pistol - so it was lethal firepower - but a police Corporal who was also buying fried chicken sprang into action. He pulled out his 9 millimeter pistol and fired several shots at the suspects. They ran off, while Smith was only injured to the arm. Police recovered seven .45 expended shells from the scene. Smith is in a stable condition at the KHMH.
