Chon Saan Delivery Man Killed For No Reason
posted (September 3, 2018)
And now back to the weekend murders in the city…..We already told you about Francis Pollard who was fatally shot around 8:00 on Friday night.

Well, three and a half hours later, a delivery man was killed in the middle of a gang turf. Now he was just making a food run for Chon Saan but it seems he went into the wrong neighborhood, where a gunman with a .45 pistol and no regard for human life shot him for no reason at all. Here's the story:..

Jules Vasquez reporting
Daniel Lopez was making a delivery here at the corner of George and Basra Streets - the base of a well-known city gang:

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"He had just done his delivery and was about to ride off when he was attacked by a male person who fired several shots at his direction, causing the fatal injuries. Police were called out to the corner of Basra Street and George Street, where they observed a male person who was identified as Daniel Lopez, lying on the right hand side of his body just beside his motorcycle."

And this 25 year old working man was killed for no reason at all:

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"We suspect that it was just a crime of opportunity."

Reporter
"If it's a crime of opportunity, there was no robbery element. Is it a murder for the sake of killing someone?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"It's just a murder of opportunity. Nothing was stolen from the guy."

Lee Mark Chang, Owner- Chon Saan
"Based on what I understand it was a random shooting. They had no way of knowing who was going to deliver the food, because we have 5 guys working on that shift at the same time and we were wrapping up. So it could have been anyone of the drivers who delivers the food."

An incredibly ruthless and random killing - and he was shot with a high powered .45 pistol. He leaves behind three young girls and a family forever scarred:

Elizabeth Gomez, Daniel Lopez's sister-In-Law
"I didn't believe the news because I never expect that from my brother-in-law. He never had any trouble - from home to work and anytime he goes out in reference to the bike club, would be his wife and him. So it was shocking. I couldn't believe it. I thought it was a joke, until my sister said it's true. It's a shock for the entire family, friends and everyone who knew him are hurted by this situation."

Lee Mark Chang, Owner - Chon Saan
"It's a really sad situation in terms of the family part. I heard the wife is really traumatized. And so we are trying to assist them and get the funeral and everything done for them."

Reporter
"Explain to me, you told me he was a young man trying to put his life together. He had his priorities lined up. Explain, because he is the father of 3 kids. Explain to me what his work ethics was like in trying to earn out there?"

Lee Mark Chang, Owner - Chon Saan
"We have a straight through shift and he would fight for all the overtime. He would want all the overtime, because he wanted to make extra. I recently heard that he sold his bigger bike that was for pleasure and he bought a car for the family, because he has 3 young kids. So that in itself is touching - he sold his hobby for the family."

And Chon Saan will also have to change its deliver options:

Reporter
"How is your staff of your fleet of delivery men, how are they dealing with it, because it has to be very scary for them?"

Lee Mark Chang, Owner - Chon Saan
"It's scary for them, because them going out there they don't know who will get shot at and on Sunday I got a report that there was a suspected shooting or something that looked suspicious on Neal's Pen Road and so the delivery guy turned back and said you know what I'm not delivering this food. So we said no problem. We called back the customer and said sorry we can't go there now. It been a warzone out there and now from Euphrates going towards downtown, anything between the canal and there we would have to stop deliver there and if they want their food they will have to come out on the main street to pick up their food."

Reporter
"None of the subsidiary streets such as South Street, Basra Street, Dean Street - you have to come onto Albert or the canal side or Euphrates?"

Lee Mark Chang, Owner - Chon Saan
"You have to come out to those main streets to pick up your food, yes."

Reporter
"And you also have change of hours."

Lee Mark Chang, Owner - Chon Saan
"The last delivery time for orders is 10pm now, instead of 11pm."

Reporter
"This will affect your customers and your business."

Lee Mark Chang, Owner - Chon Saan
"Yes it does, but that is the minor part of it. The safety of my staff is most important and if I have ro stop deliveries, I will. Because I don't want the blood on my hand for my staff to be killed or jacked or mugged."

Shane Mcfoy, 30, a George Street resident known to police was charged with the murder of 25 year old Daniel Lopez when he appeared today before the Chief Magistrate, Sharon Fraser. He was remanded into custody until October 30.
