Remember The Homeless
posted (September 5, 2018)
The September festivities haven't even started yet, but The Welcome Resource Center has their October events all planned out. The Welcome Center is a drop in center for the homeless, the elderly, the mentally ill and substance abusers. They go to the center from 9 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon to get food, take a shower and for recreational activities. Today at the World Suicide Prevention Day flag raising ceremony, the administrator Joyce Ellis told us about the 3 upcoming fundraising events that will go towards the center.

Joyce Ellis, Administrator, Welcome Resource Center
"October 10th is World Mental Health Day so we have 3 major activities that the center and MHA is promoting for this year. Our first activity is the speech competition which include high schools so the competition will be for High school student and this year we will be having it at the Bliss so we are asking that all schools come out."

"Another up and coming first of its kind event would a sleep it out meaning that you will come out you register with the welcome resource center, you pay $25 and then you will be able to go to memorial park from 6 until 6, but you don't have to be there for the entire time but that is the time we are going to use, 6 in the evening until 6 in the morning and it is $25, you get a shirt and you get to sleep out and know what it is to be homeless without a shelter."

"The third and final event is an annual event for the past 10 or so years, our Banquet and all proceeds will go in support of the Welcome Resource Center."

So mark those dates on your calendar if you want to support : October 10th is the Speech Competition, October 13th is the Sleep it out event and the annual banquet will be on the 20th.
