Let The ICJ Education Campaign Begin
posted (September 6, 2018)

And we met Caleb Orozco at the first ICJ education campaign facilitators training. It was held at Caribbean Tires conference room. Ambassador of Belize to Guatemala Alexis Rosado told us more about this training and how it ties into the ongoing campaign that was officially launched in 2013.

Alexi Rosado - Ambassador of Belize to Guatemala
"Today we are holding a little workshop to go over all the history and all the facts about the whole claim of Guatemala against Belize and how we have been trying to deal with it over the years, for two and a half generations they say, or more depending on where you start the problem. The fact that many efforts have been made and what we're trying to do is to make sure that everybody has the information necessary in order to be able to go out and help to the extent possible with the awareness."

"So this is the first facilitators training, these persons here in this workshop, they will actually be a part of the public awareness campaign, they'll be going out and spreading the information about this case?"

Alexi Rosado
"Yes to the extent they can, none of it is a full time job or anything; the important thing is that whenever they are able to, they help in the process of raising awareness. In their own groups, with the public, it doesn't matter - the fact is, we want people to be informed and have all the facts necessary, we armed with all the information necessary. The truth of the matter is, a launch was made in 2013 and I don't know that there will be another official launch. Last time the US embassy made a donation, I understood there was a launch - I don't know what launches there may be but the launch of the public awareness campaign really started when Ambassador James Murphey and Ambassador Gibson were heading the public awareness campaign. We have been making presentations all over the country, it's a pity that the media is not aware of it but we have been presentations all over the country and even this year, even before the referendum held in Guatemala. I know that Ambassador Leslie, Dr. Bird, Ambassador Murphey have been very busy doing presentations all across the country, it never stopped."

As you heard, the education campaign team has been making presentations all over the country over the years. This series of trainings is just a refresher leading up to the April 2019 referendum.
