Police Minister Says Regulations Will Be Sent Out
posted (September 7, 2018)
Today Acting Compol Williams was with Police Minister John Saldivar as they visited police on patrol, delivering lunch to them. The Minister does it every few weeks as an act of gratitude to the cops.

Today, though, the Public Emergency Zones on the southside were the biggest news.

The press asked the minister when the regulations for the State of Emergency will be released:...

Hon. John Saldivar, Minister of National Security
"There are regulations that will be released later on this evening that will tell the story of how far we will go in terms of this operation. So I will wait until that comes up."

"Why weren't other laws used?"

Hon. John Saldivar, Minister of National Security
"Obviously we've been trying all the possibilities over the last few months and we feel that this is the way to deal with the problem at this time. It will give us some time in terms of getting these persons off the street for initially 30 days and within that time we hope to do other things that will result in their incarceration, in taking them to court to make sure that we get them on other charges. If that doesn't work then we may want to extend this time. We need to get them off the streets so that people can be safe."

"Speaking about the streets, we saw that the carnival route passes through these "emergency zones." Do you think that is safe?"

Hon. John Saldivar, Minister of National Security
"The police presence are there. The police has its plans and I am confident that the police will be able to maintain the peace throughout this whole September celebrations. In terms of maintaining the peace, the police is ready. They have their plans and we can expect a safe weekend."

A televised Minister's statement on the current security situation is expected later tonight.
