Caracol, The Threat Persists
posted (September 7, 2018)
Special Constable Danny Conorquie was killed by Guatemalan bandits at Caracol in 2014, and since then a conservation post has been opened to provide greater security in the area. But as the Director of Archeology discussed today, when you're that close to the Guat border, you're never safe:..

Dr. John Morris, Interim President - NICH
"Let me be the first to say that I am never comfortable. We have placed measures out there and I am still not fully comfortable. Primarily because it's an open border and without casting a aspersions to our neighbor, there is still a lot of Guatemalans to Belize. It's an open border. We've built several conservation posts out there, but you got to remember it's a long border and so people who are intent on doing harm will find their way in and we have a tremendous amount of resources in the Chiquibul. Clearly they will come and I applaud the efforts of FCD and I applaud the efforts of my people out there and the BDF, but it's a daunting task for us out there."

No arrest was ever made for Danny Conorquie's murder.
