posted (September 11, 2018)
Going back now to Friday's big story - police have charged one man for the big money armed robbery at the Premium Wine and Spirits liquor store in King's park.

As we reported, three men - wearing no masks - got off with over fifty thousand dollars. Police told us that they slipped into the store when a legitimate customer was buzzed in:...

ACP Alejandro Cowo- OC, CIB
"While they were inside of the establishment along with other costumers, three male persons entered the establishment and held them out at gun point. During the robbery, one of the male persons pointed the firearm at the costumers and the persons working there. They went away with three cell phones and a total amount of $57,000 worth of cash in Belize dollars. It was $6,300 US and $41,000 in Belize and the total value of the phones is about $2,800 making it a total of $57,000. That amount was sales from the weekend that they had done in the districts and the money had just been brought to the main office, which is located there. They were about to do the deposit on that day of the weekend sales."

"So then, the robbers were just fortunate or did they have inside information?"

ACP Alejandro Cowo
"There is nothing to indicate that it has to do with an inside job, nothing at all."

Reporter
"Have you all found any suspects?"

ACP Alejandro Cowo
"Based on that, police conducted an investigation and a person was detained and yesterday a person by the name of Everald Sambula, 18 years old Belizean of Ordonez Avenue was arrested and charged for four counts of robbery."

Jules Vasquez
"These gentlemen did not look like business professionals or anyone who appeared wanting to do a legitimate business transaction at a premium wine and spirit location, are you able to say under what circumstances were they buzzed in?"

ACP Alejandro Cowo
"What happened is that a costumer was just about to enter the business when the three persons ran behind the costumer. As soon as the door was opened they bulged into the building."

When the men ran off, they locked everyone inside an office and went through the back with a total of $57,219 dollars in cash.

TODAY, Everald Sambula, was charged with 3 counts of robbery when he appeared before Magistrate Emerson Banner. Sambula pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was remanded into custody until October 16.

The three counts are, first, for stealing all the cash, and then, second, the manager, Forty-nine year old Maria Price said one of the men pointed a pistol at her and stole her cellphone and her gold chain. The gunman also pointed his firearm at the 48 year old delivery man and stole his cell phone.
