And while that senior diplomat felt safe to play Carnival this year - we didn't see him in the J'ouvert - which is like Carnival - in the dark of the pre-dawn - with riotous revelers - all awash in mud.
It's a special event, and this year, we found it was much smaller than previous years. But that unmistakable spirit of reckless abandon was still there - as the revelers showed us:
