So while the arraignment was happening at court, DCP Chester Williams was at the bi-weekly press conference discussing Supt. David Chi’s charges. Williams also outlined the charges against PC Anthony and the two Mexicans.

“I am not going into the specifics as it relates to the information that led to Mr. Chi’s arrest. We can confirm that yes Mr. Chi and PC Anthony have both been arrested and charged in respect to the landing of the plane in the northern communities of the Orange Walk District. Also charged along with them are two Mexicans, one is Eli Figueroa Nunez, and the other is Azariaz Manzano both Mexicans and a Belizean Peter Friessen. So a total of 5 persons have been charged. Mr. Chi and PC Anthony have both been charged with conspiracy to land a plane on an unauthorized aerodrome. They are charged jointly with Mr. Friessen for that and they are charged jointly with Friessen and the two Mexicans for the abetment to import cocaine intoBelize.”

“For there to have been this very speedy arrest and charge of Mr. Chi …..Supt. Chi, will you be able to confirm that there is enough or overwhelming evidence against him that has been found ?”

“That will be a matter for the court, we do have evidence and whenever the matter goes to trial we will be showing that evidence before the court and it will be a matter for the court to decide his guilt orinnocence.”

This investigation is still very much ongoing. We will keep following this case. And as noted in our healdine story, the two Mexicans were also charged for drug trafficking.
