Man Remanded For Alleged Pistol Whipping
posted (September 17, 2018)
A Belize City man is remanded after he allegedly pistol whipped another man.

Glenford Barrera, a librarian, reported to the police that around 9:30 p.m. on September 13, he was standing at the corner of Rocky Road and West Canal Street when he was approached by Christopher Hyde who pointed a 9 millimeter pistol at him and demanded money.

Barrera said he refused to give Hyde money and Hyde pistol whipped him on the left side of his face and left. Barrera's injury to his face was classified as harm.

Now, we note this is just a few feet away from a permanent police booth.

Twenty-two year old Hyde was charged with aggravated assault and harm when he hid appeared today before Magistrate Khadeem Palmer. Hyde pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was remanded into custody until November 16.

We are told that the dispute was in fact over money that Barrera owed Hyde. Also, witnesses tell us that Hyde punched Barrera and didn't pistol whip him. Police tell us the charge may be dropped.
