LINDO VS SAID…
posted (September 18, 2018)
And a lot of Finnegan's political scholarship under Lindo came during the steely political battles waged in the Fort George Division. That's where am ascendant Lindo faced a young Said Musa, who he beat twice, and whom he lost to two times.

So, the record shows the two were dead even, and theirs was a true political rivalry of equals, and today Finnegan said he rates them as the best ever:..

Hon. Michael Finnegan- Dean Lindo Disciple
"That rivalry was a great rivalry because it was a rivalry between two political giants. In my political life I think they were the greatest. I don't care what anyone says about Said Musa. This interview is not about Said Musa, this interview is about Dean Lindo but the closest thing to Dean Lindo, as far as I am concerned, is Said Musa. Who doesn't like it doesn't like it but I have got to be truthful."

Today, Musa, told us via telephone, quote, "When I think of Dean Russel Lindo, I think of a most formidable politician...he took the opposition party - more than anybody else - to the brink of success at a time when the when the People's United party reigned supreme for decades....Dean Russel Lindo shifted the political paradigm in Belize for the benefit of the the opposition. He shifted the whole argument from "No Guatemala" which was a total failure - he shifted it more than anybody else in that party - to economic management of the country - and this is how the UDP finally emerged victorious in 1984. And all the old struggle of Phillip Goldson - it was in a sense, subsidiary to the main argument of Dean Russell Lindo - that we can offer a better future than what is offered by George Price. I consider him...a brilliant mind, a formidable politician, and an outstanding sportsman."

Musa also says that later on in life, when they met each other at the courthouse as senior counsels, he and Lindo became, quote, "almost good friends," and said they would often share musings on current affairs.

And while Lindo was a political giant, he was also a man who liked to clown around. Later on in the news, Finnegan and Prime Minister Dean Barrow remember his sense of humour.
