Today the Belize Medical and Dental Association along with its partners held its pre- medical congress at the Biltmore. It's an opening session to prepare for the official congress to be held tomorrow and Thursday. It is pretty much an event where doctors and other medical practitioners get to discuss important updates in the field. Here's more from the president.
Dr. Jose Moguel, President - BMDA
"Today is a day called a pre-congress. It's the medical event that happens before the congress itself. So this is a lead up to the main event which is the 2 days following - 19th and 20th which will be the congress, the annual BMDA congress. Its 2 basic objective; one is to bring medical education to the physicians and to the healthcare workers of Belize, and second is to allow the accumulation of credit hours which is necessary for the registration and licensing of physicians and perhaps other healthcare professionals like nurses."
Courtney Weatherburne, reporter
"How many participants you would say are healthcare professionals are here today?"
Dr. Jose Moguel, President - BMDA
"Today we have around 70 physicians and nurses. We discussed things as updated medical topics and also local evidence, experiences with regards - for instance H1N1, malaria 0 its very important that Belize right is being declared malaria free or in the phase of being declared malaria free. Very important matters like that."
70 medical practitioners participated. But the Medical congress will have a larger crowd and a lot more topics will be discussed.
