A Workers’ Agreement With No Conflict
posted (September 20, 2018)

While labour disputes always make headlines - often enough there are stories of productive industrial relations leading to the smooth signing of collective bargaining agreements. That’s what happened between the Central Bank of Belize Security Officers, who are represented by the Christian Workers Union and the Central Bank of Belize.

The terms of a new collective bargaining agreement are that the security officers are poised to receive a ten percent salary increase under a three-year Collective Agreement signed this morning at the Bank’s Board Room.

A release says that apart “from the salary increase of 5% for 2018, 3% for 2019 and 2% for 2020, adjustments were made to other benefits favouring Security Officers, without reduction of any benefit already covered.”

Both sides expressed hope that the upcoming negotiations for the rest of the Bank Staff will likewise be non-adversarial.
