posted (September 24, 2018)
We also asked the head of CIB about this child drowning case. They say they are looking at the possibility of negligence:

ASP Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Belize City
"The family was having a reunion and the child was left in the house. They began to look for the child and the child was nowhere to be found. The mother went to her residence which is not far from where her mother lives and the child was not there. The father at the same time was coming out and he was looking outside if the yard when he saw inside of the vat the minor. They took him out and they rushed him to the hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries whilst at the hospital."

Reporter
"Any idea how the minor got into the vat?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"What we believe is that the house is six feet elevated off the ground and the vat is about seven feet in height, so just about a foot difference in height of the house."

Reporter
"Sir, are you guys looking at whether neglect may have been an issue in this case?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Yes. We have interviewed family members, mother and father, in this matter."

Police say they are looking into this case. Police will determine if any charges will be brought against the parents after the post mortem is complete.
