He Shot At Cops In City
posted (September 24, 2018)
Our next three stories are about acts of violence targeting police over the Independence Day weekend. We start in the city where a man known to the police is still wanted after he allegedly fired on two cops. ASP Cowo told us more:...

ASP Alejandro Cowo- OC, CIB, Belize City
"On Saturday just before 5 in the morning, a police officer had just departed the Queen's street police station on board of an unmarked police vehicle, driven at the time by Inspector Caliz accompanied by Srgt. Maroquin and a BDF corporal that is attached to the ACT Operation. Whilst they were leaving the compound they drove into Barrack Road, into North Front Street and just approaching by Bottom Dolla, they were alerted that a guy was ahead of them with what appeared to be a firearm. They sped the vehicle and went towards that male person and upon stopping the vehicle the person walked between the Swing Bridge and a house located at the corner with the Swing Bridge. And that is when police came out of the vehicle and called for the person to stop, but the person turned back, pointed the firearm at their direction and fired three shots. Police in response pulled out their service firearms and fired several shots at the male person and he managed to jump in the river."

"We know that he is alive. Has he turned himself into police as yet?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"After that incident, there were several sightings of him in the immediate area. Police was looking for him in that immediate area however, he managed to get away and up to now he is still out there."

Jules Vasquez
"I know that law enforcement has been in contact with his mother?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Yes, police have been dialoguing. We were told that he wasn't going to hand over himself this afternoon and the police are waiting on that."

Jules Vasquez
"They feel that he is not safe if he turns himself into police because he fired on police."

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Well, I don't see nothing for him to fear. If he is turned over to the police, the police has certain procedures that they have to follow. We have a form that has to be given to him stating his condition of his arrival at the station; and that document is also placed on the court book when he goes to the court. And if he does complain of any mistreatment by the police he has to be taken to the hospital and a medical form has to be issued to him."
