50 Boxes of Sugar Cane Insecticide Found West, But For Whom?
posted (September 24, 2018)
And while police in the south were looking for uniforms, a patrol team out west came out with a large amount of contraband insecticide. It happened on the Calla Creek Road which is a main route for contraband smugglers. The cops caught two Guatemalans coming through in a pickup with Beqnue plates, loaded with insecticide:...

ACP Joseph Myvett - Head of National Crime Investigations Branch
"Also on the 22nd September, sometime around 11:30am whilst San Ignacio police were conducting mobile patrol in the Calla Creek area, they came across a red Toyota pickup which had 2 occupants and at the time the pickup was loaded with 40 cases of respec insecticide, for which they could not produce any customs document. Both persons who were occupant of the vehicle was Humberto Monroed, 33 year old Guatemala of Melchor de Mencos and Irvin Garcia, 25 years old, also of Menchor de Mencos. Both persons have since been handed over to the customs department."

Reporter
"Did the gentlemen give any indications for whom they are importing this?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"No, they didn't."

DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINTS WE WERE UNABLE TO GET A FOLLOW UP FROM CUSTOMS, BUT PLAN TO DO SO TOMORROW.

We've investigated and found that the product is not registered in Belize and cannot be imported legally. But it is an Insecticide used in Sugar Cane production. This volume of product would be enough to could control 5,000 acres of sugar cane.

It's highly toxic and it will be interesting to see how it is destroyed.
