Wanted Man Turns Himself In, Says Police Had Him Under Shoot On Sight Order
posted (September 25, 2018)
Last night we told you about Kendrick Longsworth - who's been on the run from police since before dawn on Saturday morning. That's when two officers in an unmarked car pursued him near the Swing Bridge - and claim that Longsworth fired three shots at them and then jumped into the river. The officers fired back - and thought they may have killed him. They even called in the Coast Guard to search the river bed for his body - in case they did shoot and kill him. But, Longsworth survived, and re-surfaced today the Raccoon Street station. 7News was there:

Jules Vasquez reporting
Kendrick Longsworth Hendy - accompanied by his mom and girlfriend turned himself in at the Raccoon street Police station this afternoon. Before going into custody he let his mother take pictures of the wounds he got when he was running from police early on Saturday morning. His mother says he fractured his ribs:

Laverne Longsworth
"He came injured. His ribs are broken. I just hope they don't do him anything more than he already have."

After a last kiss, the 26 year old walked into police custody - to be charged with aggravated assault for shooting at two police officers:

Reporter
"What convinced to come and deal with this matter?"

Laverne Longsworth
"Because I say he has to come in. They say that if he doesn't come in, they will kill him. They want him dead or alive."

Reporter
"Police are saying he shot at them."

Laverne Longsworth
"He told my sister that nothing happened like that. As far as I know he only spoke to my sister. I haven't gotten a chance to speak to him yet since Saturday."

Reporter
"It was an unmark car I believe the police officers were in. Did he know that it was police officers?"

Laverne Longsworth
"No. He explained to my sister that he didn't know who was in the vehicle."

Reporter
"Did he explained to your sister as well what he was doing with a gun?"

Laverne Longsworth
"He didn't say anything about a gun as far as I know."

Reporter
"Would you vouch for your son?"

Laverne Longsworth
"All the time. I will always vouch for him, because he is my child and I am not swearing for him, because he no saint."

As he got to the Queen Street Station, police took Longsworth to the KHMH because he complains of a fractured rib. His family says he got this while running from police and accidentally falling into the river. And while not conceding that he had a gun or fired a shot, they stress that the vehicle which pulled up on him was unmarked and that's why Longsworth ran.
