The NICH Board of Directors met today in Belize City and took some major decisions. First, based on the findings of the external auditor, they took a resolution to re-instate President Sapnah Budhrani who Cabinet placed on administrative leave 4 weeks ago.
But, it's not that clear cut- we're told tat the matter will first have to go to Cabinet for approval - and pending their approval, she will be re-instated.
But, the other resolution was more clear cut - and this one needs no Cabinet approval. 7News has confirmed that the board took a decision to terminate internal auditor Roberto Matus. He's the one who started the whole uproar with an interim audit that pointed to all kinds of irregularities at NICH. Well, the external auditor, Baker Tilly Hulse concluded that Matus did not apply sufficient due diligence, and additional audit procedures would have sufficiently clarified the observations and findings reported.
So, the board has taken a decision to terminate him because he did not follow due process and because he is not qualified.
