Tonight’s headline is about story is about an attempted child abduction in Belmopan - and the most up to the minute news is that Belmopan police say they have caught the alleged kidnapper.

For weeks, we’ve been hearing anecdotal reports of a white van trying to abduct children. But, while there has been public confirmation of this in the north - up until last night - no one had made a police report.
Well, now they have. A mother in the Egoli Estates area of Belmopan told police that persons in a white van tried to abduct her children on Monday. Here’s the account she gave to police:..

"On Tuesday late in the evening, some children who were walking home on the George Price Boulevard in Belmopan area, ahm, was approached by some persons in a white van who attempted to abduct one of those persons. As a result, we commenced an investigation. And we got a report late last night from the parent where she stated that on Monday the 24th sometime around 11:30 AM whilst here three children one 14, one, 12 and one 8 were walking towards their home in the Egoli Estate area. They were on the GP Boulevard where they were approached by two persons in a white van, who offered them a ride, which they refused, as a result one of those male persons of clear complexion alighted the vehicle and attempted to force an 8 year old into the van. However that person was fought off by the other two siblings, who were also in the process pushed to the ground before the persons got back in the van and drove off. this is an ongoing investigation at this point in time."

"Sir, could this be related to an incident similar that occurred earlier this month in the Corozal District?"

"We do not know but is a matter that we're taking seriously and we have launched an investigation."

"Did the children give a detailed description of the van?"

"Yes, they did."

"Would you give us that description?"
ACP Joseph Myvette
"According to them it is a white van that has some circles with different colours painted on the sides of the van. So we are in the process of seeking to see whether or not we can locate that van."
