Belmopan School Reacted To Abduction Attempt
posted (September 27, 2018)

Now our news team was in Belmopan today and found out more details in this failed kidnapping case. The 8 year old child who the man in the van tried to kidnap attends United Evergreen Primary School. Now as the police stated, the 8 year old and 2 older siblings were heading to their Egoli area home after school when the incident happened. Well, the United Evergreen School is taking this case very seriously and issued a note to all parents advising them to be “alert and vigilant in taking extra precaution when it comes to the safety of your children.”

And many Belmopan parents are taking precaution by enlisting the services of Belmopan resident Julie Smith who is a professional child care and transport service provider. She picks up children from schools all over Belmopan, has a register to ensure all the children are in her van and takes them to her house where the parents then pick up their children. Smith says no one should take any chances with the safety of their kids.

Julie Smith - Child Care Provider
"I also heard about it, yes the school cautioned parents, a text went out telling the parent about it and also a note was given this evening for parents to be on the alert. As I said my job is to care for the kids so I am here picking up a bunch of kids and I take them back to my home so they are in my care and parents pick them up. I have to be alert like I said I take them to my home and I caution parents that this is an important thing because these people are out, stalking our kids so I advise parents to take heed of this and be cautious with their kids and use the service we provide here in Belmopan."

Smith has been child care provider over 20 years. If you would like to get in contact with Smith you can call 601-1658. In the United Evergreen note it states “ Ensure that proper arrangement is made for timely pick up and drop off and that those students who walk home are always accompanied by older siblings.”

And while vigilance does need to be on high, again, word form Belmopan police this evening is that the alleged kidnapper has been caught and the white van impounded. This is very preliminary information and we’ll have more on this tomorrow.
