Cops Trying To Find Source Of Big Gun
posted (September 27, 2018)

Police have to wait and see what ballistics tests show about an assault rifle that was found in a corn field in the Orange Walk District.  As we told you last night, the loaded AR15 Rifle was found in a rice field, 2 miles west of an airstrip in the Tres Leguas area.  We asked police if it was one of theirs:

Reporter
"Are you able to speak about the intelligence that led to finding literally a needle in a haystack, finding a machine gun in a corn field?"

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"Well, ahm, the police was responding to information."

Reporter
"Was it deliberately concealed or was it just something that had been left behind?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"No, it was, it was open in the corn field. It was in an open area, between the, inside the field. The weapon was taken in for processing and further transported to the lab where it will be further examined as well as we’re trying to trace its origin."

Reporter
"Now I know that law enforcement, specifically the police department uses an identical weapon. Is this a police weapon?"

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"I cannot say at this point but what I can tell you though is that the northern region, all rifled weapons are accounted for."

Reporter
"It's in the Tres Leguas area and we know that this area is a hotbed of criminal activity from time to time as it involves the illicit landing of suspect planes, might this weapon have been used in that sort of criminal enterprise of landing drug planes?"

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"We do not know. As I mentioned before that is what we're trying to establish by the examination of the weapon and trying to trace its origin."

We’ll keep following this one.
