Hon. Saldivar Skipping Cabinet When Faber Presides
posted (September 27, 2018)

As we told you at the top of the news tonight, Cabinet today approved the re-instatement of NICH President Sapnah Budhrani. That was with Acting Prime Minister Patrick Faber charing the Cabinet meeting.

His chief rival for UDP Leadership John Saldivar wasn’t there today to oppose it.  In fact, he hasn’t been there a whole lot for events where Faber is acting as Prime Minister. The Press asked Faber about it today:…

Reporter
"Was Minister John Saldivar at the Cabinet meeting today?"

Hon. Patrick Faber - Deputy Prime Minister
"No he wasn't."

Reporter
"And he wasn't at the Independence ceremony in Belmopan either."

Hon. Patrick Faber
"No he wasn't."

Reporter
"Do you find that very strange that he - considering the fact that he is battling for leadership at the party? I know its fair game to say then that he has not hidden his agenda but - I mean do you find it strange? Looking from the outside in, I find it strange."

Hon. Patrick Faber
"You know ministers are very busy people you know, I can't..."

Reporter
"But too busy for both Cabinet and a big day as Independence? I mean there was a big no ICJ float in the parade."

Hon. Patrick Faber
"Well given the things that can come up, I don't want to say I have not heard from him to be honest. What those reasons for his absence are, nor is it a normal practice if you don't attend Independence day for me to call the minister and say - even though I was acting Prime Minister, why did you not show up? That's not how we operate."

Reporter
"How about the Cabinet meeting?"

Hon. Patrick Faber
"By right he should give an excuse as to why he's not in Cabinet and he was not done so if you want me to say that."
