The Case of Kenrick
posted (September 27, 2018)

As we showed you two nights ago, the man wanted for shooting at police, Kenrick Longsworth turned himself in with the presence of the media.  He has been charged for three counts of Aggravated Assault.

He was arraigned today before Magistrate Emerson Banner, and he pleaded not guilty to the offenses.

Since they are alleged to have been committed with a firearm, he couldn’t be granted bail, and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

Now, his family argues that the police pulled up on him in an unmarked vehicle - which is why he fled.  Today, the head of the CIB said it was unmarked but clearly a police Wingle:..

Jules Vasquez
"He says that - his family claims that he didn't know that it was police, being that the vehicle was unmarked. What would you say in response to that? And that he reacted in an evasive passion because he's from an area that is in the middle of a gang war."

ASP Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Belize City
"Yes indeed, it is an unmarked vehicle however Mr. Caliz was in his entire police uniform. The sergeant that was along with him was in his number one uniform and likewise the corporal of BDF was in his uniform."

Jules Vasquez
"Are you able to say what type of vehicle they were in?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"I said it was a wingle, it's an unmarked wingle but it has the blue plates and as I mentioned the 3 persons in there had their number one issued uniforms."

Longsworth’s next court date is November 29.
