NAC, HIV and an APP
posted (September 28, 2018)
The National Aids Commission is trying creative ways to spread awareness on HIV. They launched their second app today at the Biltmore. I found out how it works:

There are tons of phone apps to choose from. Some of the most universally popular ones are of course whatsapp, Facebook messenger and Instagram.

Well, the National Aids Commission hopes that their new app will be on everyone's list of top picks.

Arthur Usher, Communications and Programs Officer, NAC
"This app today we are launching is more specific to HIV servicing within the country. So the idea behind the app is to give the user a specific location relative to where they are so you would use the app to figure out which health facility is near to you, which one you want to go to, it utilizes Google maps in order to pin point the precise location and show you where you want to go to."

"It shows the opening hours that each organization is open for. The user will also get updates so whenever NAC has an activity or whenever any organization has an activity you get a prompt."

According to developer Joseph Roches, he and his team completed the app in one month. Roches says the app is very convenient and easy to use.

Joseph Roches, Co-Founder, LXJ CODE
"That is the special part you don't have to go on Google, just open the app, if you want to see where the location is in Corozal, click Corozal and the location is there and the services they offer, it is easy as that."

Apart from the quick access to information, the app also saves a lot of people from the anxiety of asking for certain services such as HIV testing and consultations.

Arthur Usher, Communications and Programs Officer, NAC
"People feel a bit uncomfortable sometimes going to specific areas and some people don't know the address or they are a bit timid or ashamed to ask certain questions so providing this easy method of you don't need to ask we give you all the information."

"So you know exactly where to go without having attached or perceived stigma you may have if you go to a place you are not comfortable with."

NAC launched their first app in 2016. That one was more of a gaming app. The new app is available on android and apple app stores and it can be downloaded for free.
