And while BEL was educating school children about electricity, UNICEF was signing several hundred of them up for their U-Report project.
It's a social media platform designed by the NGO to give young people a collective voice to influence policy in their country. The U-Report has been launched in over 30 countries worldwide, and today, UNICEF brought it to Belize.
Today, the country representative told us that policy makers will be able to sample public opinion of the young Belizean subscribers on issues that affect them if they make use of the U-Report Platform:
UNICEF's U-Report Facebook page says that there are millions of young people worldwide who are now a part of the platform, and who have influenced public policy in the countries where it exists.
