PM Back At Work

The Rt. Hon. Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland left Belize today. It was a short two day visit. In a release sent out it states "The Secretary General's visit underscores the Commonwealth's unequivocal support for Belize's sovereignty and territorial integrity….the visit is also aimed at promoting the Commonwealth and its work". Scotland met with the Governor General, the Leader of the Opposition John Briceno, Foreign Affairs Minister Wilfred Elrington, members of the Referendum Commission and Prime Minister Dean Barrow. In fact, meeting with Scotland, was Prime Minister Barrow's first order of business as he returned to his office yesterday after his surgery in Cuba. This is Scotland's second visit to Belize. The release ends by saying "The Commonwealth has done pioneering work in addressing the challenges faced by small states like Belize and in amplifying the voice of small states at the international level. It has provided technical assistance and capacity building support in areas such as trade, legislative drafting, public sector policy and climate change."
