Will The People of Port Choose Peyre?
posted (October 3, 2018)
We asked Peyreffite his reaction to the public perceptions - since he is trying to go from the senate to the House, as a popular politician. The convention for Port Loyola will be held in a less than a month - and we asked Peyreffite where he stands in relation to his three opponents:...

Reporter
"Explain to me what are your hopes and projections going into that convention?"

Mike Peyrefitte, Attorney General
"I hope to win the convention and I will project to you what will happen on November 5th. I don't know what will happen. The people on that day go out and they will vote which of the 4 of us they prefer and whatever the result is, I will accept that result."

Reporter
"What is your tactile sense of what is happening on the ground, insofar as we know that Phillip Willoughby is widely praised or criticized as being indefatigable? Might he have an advantage there in terms of the community outreach? Dean Samuels we know is a Port Loyolan and has intrinsic ties in that community. I am not so familiar with Mr. Castillo, but what would you say - how do you square off against your opponents in this regard, being an outside and being not Phillip Willoughby the indefatigable?"

Mike Peyrefitte, Attorney General
"We all have our own styles and strategies. In the evening of November 4th, we will know which style and strategy was the best one. We can analyze it 6 ways from Sunday, but nothing will be determine and nothing can determine anything until November 4th when the people go out to the polls to choose who they want to go for the UDP in the next general elections."

Reporter
"What has the interaction look like between you and people? I mean you have to juggle work and campaigning."

Mike Peyrefitte, Attorney General
"It has to be done. An interaction has been great."

Reporter
"Have you been on the ground?"

Mike Peyrefitte, Attorney General
"No, I've been locked up in my office, in my home doing absolutely nothing. I mean come on. Of course I have been on the ground, to meet the people, to talk to them. That's how you win elections. You can't sit somewhere and say okay vote for me because I am cute. You have to be there and meet the people. So that's what we all have to do. And we all has been doing it. The people then would just simply choose who they prefer. That's all."

Reporter
"There are those who say you would be a fit person to lead and so might there be larger driving forces within the party who would like to see a Michael Peyrefitte victor?"

Mike Peyrefitte, Attorney General
"I haven't consider myself to be fit for some years and then you used fit and larger in the same sentence. You are being inconsistent, Listen, there are some people in creole terminology saying people are seeing ghost. I don't know about anything other than a November 4th convention between myself and 3 other candidates for Port Loyola. If people are analyzing beyond that, then good for them. I don't know anything about that and my mind doesn't work that way. If there is anything beyond that, you must pass that bridge before you can go beyond that. So why would I even consider anything beyond that when I have to cross that bridge first. Who knows, on November 4th, the people may choose Shane Castillo and we won't have any of this discussion."

Reporter
"The foreign minister has said that there is a 3rd person, a dark horse, to be specific, that would possible be challenging for leadership. That fact that you are wearing black, you are the dark horse presume."

Mike Peyrefitte, Attorney General
"People hear all kinds of things, people say all kinds of things. We don't know and the leader can come from the national assembly, yes. But why be leader if you are not prime minister. I am not even qualified to challenge for a division to represent. How can I be thinking leadership of a party and prime minister when I am not even the chosen one yet or to be for the UDP to challenge the PUP candidate. We are way ahead of ourselves."

The Convention is on November fourth.
