Alleged Attempted Abductor Asks For Bail, Judge Balks
posted (October 5, 2018)
63 year-old Roger Wallis, the British national who police charged for 2 counts attempted kidnapping, has been on remand at the Belize Central Prison for 5 days. Police say that he tried to kidnap an 8 year-old boy in Belmopan on last week Monday.

Well, his attorney, Hurl Hamilton, made an application for Supreme Court bail on his behalf today before Justice Adolph Lucas. Hamilton tried to convince the judge that Wallis is not a flight risk, and that he has been living in Belize for the past 3 years.

Hamilton added that Wallis has a pending application for permanent residence, and he has also applied to become a registered voter. Hamilton also told the court that he is a resident of Belmopan, and he is the owner of a business, Area 52 Entertainment.

Court reports say that the judge asked the prosecution, represented by Senior Crown Counsel Sheneiza Smith, if they had any objections to bail, and Smith said that the DPP's Office had none.

We're told the the judge had concerns about granting Wallis bail, and he adjourned the hearing until next Friday. He asked the crown counsel provide statements and affidavits in the case, so that he can be aware of the fact as police have them. So right now, Wallis is back on remand for a week.

As we told you, on September 24th, between 11:30 a..m. and 12:18 p.m., 3 children: 2 sisters and a brother, were returning home from school. They were walking on a street in Belmopan when a caucasian man in a white van drove up and offered them a ride. They refused, and they reported to police that the man made a u-turn and grabbed the 8-year-old boy by the arm. He was allegedly attempted to force the child into the van, but the children fought him off. He allegedly shoved them to the ground and drove off.

Police investigated the report, and they detained Wallis. An ID parade was conducted last week Friday, and Wallis was allegedly identified as the attacker by all witnesses.
