Teenager Murdered At Cahal Pech Mayan Temple, Suspects Are Minors
posted (October 8, 2018)
And from that double tragedy in Succotz Village, we turn now to the bizarre murder of 19 year-old Bobby Garcia, a student from Kevin Drive Street in San Ignacio Town.

Early on Sunday morning, Garcia's body was found inside the Cahal Pech Archaeological Reserve, in one of the temple areas that the NICH archaeologists have labelled as "Plaza E". He had cut wounds to the left arm, the left side of his chest, and to his throat.

On Saturday night, He told his parents that he was heading to a nearby park. He never returned, and hours later, he was found dead, reportedly by tourists visiting the Mayan site.

It is a strange occurrence because the site is supposed to be off limits from the general public during night time hours. But somehow, Garcia and his killers managed to get in. Police say that the NICH personnel reported receiving a call sometime on Saturday night into into early Saturday morning. That caller reportedly heard screams coming from the site itself, but nobody investigated until the next morning.

Today at the police press conference, the head of the National Criminal Investigations Branch shared what details investigators have so far:

ACP Joseph Myvett, HNCIB
"The initial information is that the deceased had left home on Saturday morning along with two other persons. He returned home in the evening and later left again sometime around 7:00pm. it is believed that he left in the company of those same two male individuals. His family did not hear from him throughout Saturday night, until the discovery of his body where his father was called to the scene. Police is seeking two persons who we believe can assist in this investigation."

Reporter
"Is it believed that the victim was killed at that particular scene? Or his body was moved there from what preliminary investigations are showing so far?"

ACP Joseph Myvett, HNCIB
"From the preliminary stage we do believe that yes, he was killed there."

Reporter
"Is there any indication that someone was playing at some serious game with this. It's very unusual to have a murder scene at a temple."

ACP Joseph Myvett, HNCIB
"Well we do not know that at this point. However, as I mentioned before that, we are seeking those two individuals who we believe can assist us in this investigation."

We spoke with Garcia's father via telephone today, and he told us that the family has decided not to grant any interviews at this time, since the investigation into his murder is in its early stages.

Police sources tell us that a 14 year-old boy and 15 year-old boy are the main suspects, and they are in detention at this time. There is suspicion that Garcia may have been killed as part of an occult and very misguided - initiation ritual. The young men could be charged tomorrow.
