Woman Constable To Stand Trial For Killing Muslim Barber
posted (October 9, 2018)
At the end of December 2017, into early January 2018, Fareed Ahmad's murder dominated the headlines. The well known barber, from a prominent Muslim family was shot and killed inside his vehicle in his home village of Hattieville.

Police charged his passenger, 24 year-old Police Constable Michelle Brown, who was attached to police's Special Assignment Team for murder.

It was a very controversial case because some in the Muslim community suggested that it was a hit on a Muslim executed by the S-A-T.

Brown has been in jail since, and the case was called up before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer for a preliminary inquiry today. This is the procedure to determine whether or not she will have to stand trial before the Supreme Court.

The police prosecutor handed over the case file to the Chief Magistrate, which included over 17 witness statements, 21 reports, and several documents that the DPP's Office and the police will rely on to prove Constable Brown's guilt.

After reviewing the case file, Chief Magistrate Frazer determined that there is enough evidence against her to warrant a full trial. With that determination, the Chief Magistrate Frazer committed her case to the January 2019 session of the Supreme Court.

Shortly after midnight on December 28th, 2017, Ahmad was shot in the face while he was driving his SUV between miles 16 and 17 on the George Price Highway. The vehicle veered off the shoulder of the highway and crashed on the shoulder. Brown was the only passenger in the vehicle, and her service firearm was recovered from inside the vehicle. His gun was believed to have been stolen. She has refused to cooperate with police and has given no statement. Because of the security risks, she is escorted to court days by the GSU.
