Cayo Fire Station Is In The Dumps
posted (October 10, 2018)
And while there is a plan to stretch those dollars mighty thin for some new fire trucks - the fact is that the crises in the fire department is more than just fire trucks. The Department's physical infrastructure is in terrible shape in some areas - like Cayo. We saw the PUP area rep make a Facebook post about it, and we asked the Minister when it will be fixed:...

Jules Vasquez- Reporter
"Your colleague in Cayo North East, Landy Habet, has posted on his Facebook some very scandalous pictures of the deplorable conditions at the fire station in San Ignacio/Santa Elena; unbelievable actually. What is the medium term or short term plan for this?"

Hon. Edmond Castro- Minister of Transport
"The fire station in San Ignacio should have been moved a long time ago. We have a piece of land, I think, behind Seth; this is from Mr. Hulse's time. It is a piece of land that they should be relocating to that location. Finding the funding to build the structure is another thing. But we are moving that fire service."

Jules Vasquez
"Will they be under a tent? You can't just put them on land."

Hon. Edmond Castro
"I don't know. I can't answer that question because I don't know how the funding or the sort of funding to rebuild the fire station somewhere behind Seth. It is a half-acre land or something. That area that they have now is really tight."

Jules Vasquez
"Okay but you agree you can't move them just onto a piece of land."

Hon. Edmond Castro
"Exactly."

Jules Vasquez
"So, you have a problem."

Hon. Edmond Castro
"We have a problem and we will solve it."
