NEMO Activated In Case Of Floods
posted (October 16, 2018)
If you watched tonight's weather report, you'll know that an area of low pressure is passing over southern Belize.

This low pressure system was expected to gain a bit more strength before making landfall, but now that it is already making contact with land, it cannot develop any further.

While that is good news, it also means that a lot of rain will fall, or has fallen on the south. That's why the National Emergency Management Organization offices countrywide are on alert in the case of flash floods:

Hon. Edmond Castro, Minister - NEMO
"We've been tracking this one from last week Thursday/Friday. So this morning all the EOC are schedule to have a meeting at 10am this morning so that we can prepare ourselves in the event that this turns into something crucial and dangerous for us. So far it seems that we will get a little bit of wind and a lot of rain. So we have to watch for flash flooding especially in the south and those who are in the areas close to a creek or river. Expect that the water might come up rapidly depends on how much rainfall we received. So we are monitoring it and make sure we keep our population as safe as possible."

You should be on the lookout for more rain as this system moves into the Northeastern Pacific.
