Babysitter Pleads Guilty To Causing Child’s Death By Beatings
posted (October 17, 2018)
And while that ugly case will now have to go through the courts, another case of monstrous child abuse is almost over.

31 year-old Donna Banner, who was facing a manslaughter charge for the death of a 2 year-old baby, is awaiting a sentence from Justice Colin Williams after she pleaded guilty to causing the child's death. She was the babysitter who was taking care of 2 year-old Vernice Rodriguez back in 2008, when the child died due to severe head trauma. Baby Vernice was beaten in the head with a blunt object.

On May 18th, 2009, police from Ladyville responded to reports of a child being injured at a home. When they arrived at the KHMH, they found Baby Vernice, who was 2 years and 9 months old, being treated by a doctor on duty. The officers saw injuries to both of Vernice's cheeks, swelling to her forehead, bruises to her entire back, bruises to both legs, and an opened wound to her left foot.

Kurl Benguche gave evidence saying that Banner asked him to take her to the KHMH because Baby Vernice was foaming at the mouth and breathing heavily. She gave a caution statement that on 2 separate occasions she used corporal punishment on the toddler. In one instance, she hit the baby with a clothes hangar because the toddler wet herself. She also admitted to lashing the child once more because she did not clean her nose. She told police that on the date of her death, she left the room momentarily, and on her return, she found Baby Vernice on the floor with her hands and feet twisting, and her eyes were rolling to the back of her head.

On October 26, 2018, Justice Williams will hear her mitigation plea before coming to an appropriate sentence for her guilty plea.
