posted (October 17, 2018)
And there is also some justice for a little boy who was run over and killed by a hit and run driver. In May of 2009, 6 year old Jose Garcia Jr, was riding a bicycle from King Street on to Amara Avenue when he was knocked down from behind by Stephan Palacio. Palacio was driving a green Toyota Highlander which threw Garcia into the air. When he landed, he sustained massive injuries to his neck and the back of his head. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the KHMH.

Palacio did not stop to render aid and did not report the accident. A month later, he was arrested and we found out why: he had no driver's license, no vehicle license, and no insurance. He was charged with drove motor vehicle without due care and attention, failure to stop and render aid, failure to report an accident, drove motor vehicle not covered by third party insurance, drove an unlicensed motor vehicle and drove motor vehicle without a valid driver's license.

But, in court this week, al that went away when the 31 year old pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of causing death by careless conduct before Justice Colin Williams .Palacio will be sentenced on October 19. Palacio was represented by attorney Herbert Panton while the Crown was represented by Crown Counsel Janelle Thomas-Shorter.
