For viewers, the story of the 5 year old girl raped by her stepfather is heart-wrenching and deeply disturbing. Just imagine what the child is going through. While the stepfather has been charged with rape, the baby has to get help to try and heal from this trauma. Police told us more about this case.

"The child was brought to Belize City where a medical was conducted and the doctor certified that the child was carnally known. Based on that report that she made, an investigation was conducted, a 31 year old Salvadorian national was arrested and charged yesterday for the crime of rape of a child."

"Sir do we know whether or not this step father has done similar acts against this child before?"

"No, this is the first time."

"What's the medical condition of the child?"

"The child has been released from the hospital, however based on the investigators and the social worker, the child is going through some trauma and we understand that it's a very young child and we have to give her time and the family time also to try to recover from this unfortunate incident and we cannot be pressuring them at this time. So we have spoken to the family members and human services and we have assisted them with counselling and that is something that will take a little bit of time before that child fully recovers."
As we have reported, the child’s mother left her home alone to get food. When she returned, she found her nude husband and her baby crying and bleeding.
Today the stepfather was brought to court in Belize City where Magistrate Emerson Banner explained to him that he will not take a plea because the offence is indictable. He also explained that the Magistrate's Court cannot offer him bail because of the nature of the offence. He remanded the stepfather into custody until December 10th. He is originally from Salvador and has been living in Belize for 5 months.
