Man Shot 7 Times Needs Your Help
posted (October 23, 2018)
So, while the cops have made an arrest in Saldano's shooting, they are still investigating the near fatal, execution attempt that was made on 21 year-old Nathaniel Lockwood, a resident of Sandhill Village.

On Sunday, just after midday, Lockwood was riding a motorcycle, and he had 35 year-old Lyndon Ramos as his passenger. Near mile 21 on the Phillip Goldson Highway, they were approached by an SUV.

Lockwood pulled to the side of the road to allow the vehicle to pass, but instead, the vehicle swerved into them, knocking them down. The impact catapulted both men off the bike, and into the nearby bushes.

Someone from inside the vehicle then pulled a gun and shot an injured Lockwood 7 times. He was hit by 4 bullets to the back, 1 to the right leg, 1 to the left leg, and 1 to the right arm. The vehicle then sped off, leaving an injured Lockwood on the side of the road. Ramos escaped mostly unhurt.

Lockwood was rushed by a friend to the BDF hospital in Ladyville, and he was later transported to the KHMH, where he remains hospitalized in a critical condition. He's in need of major surgery, and today, we got a chance to speak with his mother about this attack. She said that her son isn't a troublemaker, and the gunman who shot him targeted an innocent young man. She explained why:

Pearla Augustine, Mother of the shooting victim "Anyone who knows my son, he always hang out home with his friends. He doesn't go out too much and strays. Right in Sand Hill he stays and hang with his friends - take a little drink. He was socializing at my neighbor's house and a young man and ask him to take him to Gardenia and the understanding I got is that my son jumped on the cycle. His sister shouted at him to come back and he said he was coming right back. He said he was taking the young man and that's when my daughter called me and told me that Nathaniel got shot up. My son took the young man home. I cannot say what happened. He said a vehicle was following them and he slowed down and that's when the man started to fire shots at them."

"But really I want the police to come and talk to us, because they have to do a proper investigation. I am not throwing words or anything on anyone, because I'm not that type of person. But people who knows me and knows my kids, we are not those type of people. We are not violent people. I raised my kids to be honorable and humble towards each other and for them to do this to my son. They are wrong. They chance my little boy for nothing, because that's my belief. I believe my son was in the wrong place and whosoever did it and if you are watching me, I am not the person who will be taking revenge, but I believe in one person and that is God and he will give me my revenge."

"He is in the hospital with 7 gunshot wounds to his body; 4 in his back, 2 in both legs and one in his arm. His hands are broken and his feet is broken and he needs to do a surgery on Friday to help his feet so that he will be able to walk and the expense is like $1,500 just for the surgery."

"To be injured 7 times and to be still alive, that's a miracle. How do you think he survived this particular attack?"

Pearla Augustine, Mother of the shooting victim
"I believe my son survive this attack because I believe in God and from the day have all my kids, it's me alone struggling with them and the Lord have never failed me and I know deep down in my heart that he will never fail me now. So that's what I am hoping and praying every day for that he will never let me down and fail me with my son."

So, as you heard, the family must come up with over a thousand dollars to cover the surgery which Lockwood needs to hopefully restore the use of his legs. His mother made a plea for help and support from the general public for a barbecue fundraiser that they're holding this weekend.

Pearla Augustine, Mother of the shooting victim
"We are asking people to help us with donations to do barbeque sale in Sand Hill starting from 8 at the Maskall junction."

"What will happen if you guys aren't able to afford this surgery?"

Pearla Augustine, Mother of the shooting victim
"Well right now we are working on blood, because he needs blood. He is getting weak and he needs blood to help him recover. There is not too much damage to his back. The doctor says he cannot take out the bullets. If he remove the bullets it will be more harm to him, so the most important thing right now is to get these done and for his lungs - one of his lungs is not working too well. So they are working on that too. His head - everything is working for his head. Thank God for that."

"The barbeque fund raising will be held at Maskall junction in Sand Hill, starting from 8am. We are asking the public who would like to assist us, my number is 666-9541. For the week I'll be here at the KHMH if you want to contact me. My name is Pearla Augustine. My other daughter name is Kayla Bryant if you want to get in contact with her. Her number is 622-0268. I'll really appreciate anything you guys can give, even of it's a pound of rice or beans - anything I'll appreciate you guys can give to me."

So, if you would like to help Lockwood's family to afford the surgery, you can reach them at telephone numbers 666-9541 and 622-0268.

Lockwood will celebrate his 22nd birthday at the hospital while trying to survive this near fatal attack.
