Willoughby Praying For Boots
posted (October 24, 2018)
And while he searches for that way - to her Philloughby's supporters tell it - the best ACE in his hand is the fact that Boots Martinez is supporting his opponent Michael Peyrefitte. Martinez - who won the division by a margin of almost 1500 with 74% of the votes in 2008, merely squeaked by with 48% of the vote and by a margin of 76 ballots in 2015.

That's a rapid hemorrhaging of support, and we asked Willoughby if this unpopularity plays into his hands:...

Jules Vasquez - Reporter
"Do you feel that at this point Mr. Martinez is a liability for the UDP in Port Loyola?"

Phillip Willoughby- UDP Aspirant, Port Loyola
"What I will say in response to that question is that I have reconnected with the people."

Jules Vasquez
"So, you are saying you have reconnected with the people but what is the sentiment of those people? Mr. Martinez says he is the king in Port Loyola."

Phillip Willoughby
"I have no response to that. I have no response to that question other than to say that I know one king and that is my god. I have no need for earthly kings."

Jules Vasquez
"Sir, but I am saying these are your supporters talking. There is a lot of antipathy for Mr. Martinez."

Phillip Willoughby
"I think because they said it they are hurting and I wouldn't want them to get upset with me but that is the general reality on the ground and the sentiment. And I apologize for that."

Jules Vasquez
"Okay but Mr. Martinez..."

Phillip Willoughby
"Enough with that..."

Jules Vasquez
"Yes but shouldn't he take a humble approach and say, 'alright, I understand I am their representative but whoever wins I do have to work with them because yes, I am a representative but I am on my way out, I am a lame duck.'"

Phillip Willoughby
"Look here, we will just pray for Boots and god will give us the victory on the fourth of November."

We'll of course have coverage of that four - way convention.
