Another Drug Plane Burned In the North - Cargo Gone!
posted (October 25, 2018)

This morning, news went out all across the country that yet another drug plane had landed in Northern Belize.

The King Air 200 was found before a few miles northeast of Progresso Village in the Corozal District - on fire and abandoned.

The persons who landed the aircraft also destroyed it, and fled the scene before law enforcement could arrive.  They probably also got away with the drug cargo.

Here's what it looked like on the ground:

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"On today's date, shortly after 4 a.m., Corozal Police was called to an area on the Progresso Copper Bank road, which is located some 3 miles northeast of Progresso Village, where upon arrival, sometime around 4:30 a.m., they observed the remains of a burnt twin engine aircraft still on fire. Investigators are on the ground as we speak, conducting investigations, as well as conducting searches within the entire area. No other item has been found so far, aside from the remains of the burnt aircraft."

Daniel Ortiz
"Do police believe at this time that the plane crash landed, or that the persons who landed the plane did so safely and destroyed it afterwards?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Well from the scene, it appears that it was set on fire."

Daniel Ortiz
Sir, do police suspect that this is some sort of illicit drug type landing?

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Well, obviously it was an illegal landing because that is not an authorized aerodrome, so that was an illegal landing."

Daniel Ortiz
"Do you have an idea as to what may have been on the plane, if there was any sort of cargo, illicit cargo?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"No, no we don't at this time."

Daniel Ortiz
"In this particular area, it seems as though that there has been a lot of aircraft landings. Are the police command considering maybe placing some sort of presence in that part part  of the Orange Walk District?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Well, there is a  police sub-station in Progresso, and I was made aware that most of the formations, including Corozal, do have a rural operation team that who do operate throughout the district."

By our count, this is the fourth King Air 200 type drug plane to have landed in the north in the past year.
