The PUP Leader is Listening But Can He Hear Objections to his Chief of Staff?
posted (October 25, 2018)

But, listening is free - both at the ICJ, and on the road where PUP Leader John Briceno is tonight.

As we told you last night, he's gone on a tour to hear from party supporters in all 31 constituencies how they feel about the ICJ - before his party comes up with a final position.

And the man who will be sitting at his right hand during this tour is his chief of staff Stuart Leslie.  Leslie is the former head of government's referendum unit - and a staunch advocate of going to the ICJ.  This - and his proximity to the leader - has generated resentment in some quarters of the party - and we asked Briceno yesterday - how he manages that:..

Jules Vasquez
"Sir your chief advisor, I believe the title is chief of staff Stuart Leslie is known as the ICJ man, in terms of he was in charge of the ICJ education campaign, public national campaign for a time, for quite some time and there is resentment in your party for this man. I feel a lot of the pushback from the Southern Caucus in particular is a pushback against Stuart Leslie's influence. How do you respond to that?"

Hon. John Briceno, Leader of the Opposition
"I'm sure that they are people that are resentful against you as the editor of Channel 7 News but your father did not remove you because of that; he keeps you there because of your talent. Obviously let's forget the good looks, but the same applies to Stuart, everybody knows Stuart has always been a loyal supporter of the PUP and I've said when it comes to the issue about Belize, we cannot politicize that."

Briceno's listening tour started today in the Toledo District.
