Also in Dangriga, police shot a man in the leg in self-defense. It happened early Saturday morning when police were searching resident John Elijio. Here's more.

"Dangriga police were on mobile patrol when they observed a dark skin male person on a bicycle. He was approached and informed that a search would be conducted on him. As a result a struggle ensued between this male person later identified as John Elijio, 39 years old of a Dangriga Town address. During the struggle according to the officers Mr. Elijio went to his pants waist with his right hand attempting to retrieve something from his pants waist and as a result the officer fearing for his life fired one shot towards him which caught him on the left upper leg. A search was then conducted on him which resulted in the discovery of a chrome Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition. He was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital where he was treated and is now detained pending charges."
They found a loaded 9mm pistol on him. An internal investigation is also being conducted.
