Sewing Social Solutions?

In recent weeks, we've been showing you how police from eastern division have been using barbering and bartending as a community outreach initiative, to provide work for at-risk youths. The police been trying to facilitate opportunities for gainful employment for this sector of the City's population, and now, they're trying to aid single mothers with a marketable skill.

And in that we've found out that Assistant Police Commissioner Robert Mariano, the Eastern Regional Commander, is quite skilled in the art of sewing. So, since there were a number of persons who kept coming to him looking for employment opportunities, he decided to start teaching interested individuals how to sew professionally.

Fast forward today after several months, and he now has several graduates who he has trained. We got a chance to meet them today, and here's what they had to say about how this initiative will empower them:

Majority of the sewing machines that the graduates are using were donated by the Department of Youth Services, as well as generous members of the public.
