Deranged & Dangerous, Samuel August Escapes
posted (November 2, 2018)
Samuel August is back at the KHMH tonight receiving treatment for stab wounds - we say back at the KHMH because, by now, you may know that August escaped from his police guard this morning around 7:00, stole a vehicle, rammed it into a backhoe on the Northern Highway and then attempted to kill himself. It is a truly unbelievable series of events that began on Wednesday morning on Faber's Road when he killed his own son, and the child's grandmother with a backhoe.

And now, literally, an unimaginable sequel to that unspeakable crime.

Here is a run-down of all that happened this morning.

Courtney Weatherburne reporting
Tonight, disturbing images of Samuel August harming himself are circulating on social media.

This morning, police found August in this crashed Equinox on the Northern Highway.

This is after he escaped from his police guard at the KHMH emergency room.

Chester Williams, Deputy Commissioner of Police
"The information is concluded, but yes we have obtained information that he did ask to go the restroom and the police officer cannot accompany him to the restroom. So the handcuff was removed and he was allowed to use the bathroom, which is a part of his human rights."

August bolted out of the hospital and carjacked a woman at the corner of Gentle and Vasquez avenues. Her kids were also in the vehicle. She shared the terrifying encounter off camera.

Voice of: Tanesha Ross
"As I turned off my engine to allow my children to go inside, I saw a young man coming up the street from me and I thought he was going to just pass by and he just came in and grab me by the neck and started to try to pull me out of the vehicle and I jazz-ling with him for a few seconds and I started to shout for my brother-in-law and I told my kids to jump out of the vehicle because at that time he was jazz-ling with me still. He was trying to put the key in the ignition to move and by that time my brother-in-law came out and he was moving off the same time. My brother-in-law jumped in the vehicle and he was moving off and they were jazz-ling in the vehicle as well and he fell out of the vehicle, because he wasn't in totally."

August sped off, down Coney drive unto the Northern highway. Ross called her brother who was driving into the city. He saw her stolen vehicle pass and followed August, until he rammed into this backhoe. A CISCO worker saw everything.

"He picked up speed from here in front of Pumps and Motors and ran straight into the backhoe - just pick up a speed from 0-70 and straight into the backhoe. The backhoe was on its way to work."

August hit his head on the hydraulic arm of the backhoe, then he took a shard of broken glass and later this pair of scissors and stabbed himself.

Voice of: CISCO Worker
"He was just stabbing up himself all in his neck."

But August survived. The ambulance came to take him back to the hospital, and the police took over from there, canvassing the scene - part two to the Faber's Road rampage.

Reporter
"Have you even seen anything like this?"

Voice of: CISCO Worker
"No. That's just crazy."

Now before we continue, just to clarify a couple details in the initial Fabers road attack, as we told you on Wednesday, a neighbor, Carl Butler shot at August as he was in the backhoe destroying Young's home, but he did not hit August. August only got an injury to the head for which he was being treated for before he escaped this morning.

And as it relates to August's state of mind at the time of the Fabers Road rampage, it is suspected that he was under the influence. As we showed you, a rum bottle was found in the backhoe.
